Shahram Latifi, Professor, Electrical Engineering
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Shahram Latifi, an IEEE Fellow, received the Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Fanni, Tehran University, Iran in 1980. He received the Master of Science and the PhD degrees both in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Latifi is the director of the Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT) at UNLV. He has designed and taught graduate courses on Bio-Surveillance, Image Processing, Computer Networks, Fault Tolerant Computing, and Data Compression in the past twenty years. He has given seminars on the aforementioned topics all over the world. He has authored over 200 technical articles in the areas of image processing, biosurveillance, biometrics, document analysis, computer networks, fault tolerant computing, parallel processing, and data compression. His research has been funded by NSF, NASA, DOE, Boeing, Lockheed and Cray Inc. Dr. Latifi was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Computers (1999-2006) and Co-founder and General Chair of the IEEE Int’l Conf. on Information Technology. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada.
Sarah Harris, Associate Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering

Dr. Sarah Harris is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering. She came to UNLV after spending 10 years as an assistant and associate professor at Harvey Mudd College in the nation’s top-ranked undergraduate engineering program.
Vinh Le

Vinh graduated in 2015 with a Bachelors of Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Having been part of the Track 1 Nexus Project since 2014, Vinh continued this work after he was accepted into the Master’s Program at UNR for Computer Science and Engineering. The main fields of research that interest Vinh include Software Engineering, Full-Stack Development, and Human-Computer Interaction.
Connor Scully-Allison

Connor Scully-Allison received his Bachelors of Philosophy in 2012 from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Accepted into the master’s program at UNR for Computer Science and Engineering in 2015, he is currently working as a research assistant on the Track 1 Nexus Project for the Cyber-Infrastructure lab located in the College of Engineering. His research interests include Human Computer Interaction, Data Visualization, and Software Engineering.
Mei Yang, Associate Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering

Dr. Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her research interests are computer architectures, interconnection networks, embedded systems; and computer networks, wireless sensor networks, and mobile ad-hoc networks.

Dr. Jiang is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research interests are algorithms, VLSI architectures, and circuit level techniques for the design of DSP, networking, telecommunications, and biomedical systems; computer architectures; biomedical signal processing, instrumentation, and medical informatics; BioMEMS/BioNEMS; wireless communications and security; nuclear sensors and real time, portable analytical instrument development; and renewable energy.

Ju-Yeon Jo, Associate Professor, Computer Science

Ju-Yeon Jo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). She has worked in cybersecurity, computer networks, software engineering, and big data analytics, both in industry and academia. Before joining UNLV, Prof. Jo was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories of Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, New Jersey, where she developed control software for optical networking equipment. She also worked as a software engineer at Coree Networks, a start-up that developed an ultra-fast packet switch. Her academic work includes research on various cyber attack protection methods, cybersecurity data mining, real-time control software design and testing, network performance analysis, data collection and visualization, and performance issues of Hadoop and MapReduce. She has served numerous IEEE and other conferences as a program, conference, finance, registration, and local chair.
Michele Casella, Education, Outreach and Diversity Administrator in STEM

Michele Casella is the Education, Outreach and Diversity Administrator (EOD) for the Nevada System of Higher Education Special Sponsored Programs Office (NSHE SSPO). In this role, she is responsible for ensuring that EOD activities are integrated throughout the three NSF EPSCOR projects currently funded in Nevada. Ultimately, she would like to work collaboratively with other research-based projects to provide continuity in STEM education and research and to build a more diverse STEM workforce.In 2002, Michele received a Bachelors of Science degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her formal education and professional experience working for state and federal agencies, as well as for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, has made Michele successful in planning, implementing and evaluating pathway programs for traditional and non-traditional students in a variety of different disciplines. As a native Nevadan, Michele takes pride in her community and is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment for success in higher education and beyond into a strong economic workforce….AGAINST ALL ODDS!
